Snow Festival in Gulmarg attracts tourists in large numbers

Gulmarg, Feb 5 : Tourists are thronging Gulmarg in Jammu and Kashmir state to take part in the annual Snow Festival.

The Snow Festival involving a number of events like snow cycling, ice hockey and snow rugby kick-started on Tuesday.

The festival was inaugurated by Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Minister Nawan Rigzin Jora.

"As far as the games are concerned, there are plenty of games like ice skating, ice hockey, rugby, cycling and other small events. The motto of the festival is to tell people that Gulmarg has a good snowfall," said Shabir Ahmed, co-ordinator, Snow Festival.

The tourists from various parts of India have arrived in Gulmarg to participate in snow sports.

Jammu & KashmirJammu, Feb 4 : A 31-year-old pregnant Gujjar woman has told police at the Baderwah Police Station in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda District that she was repeatedly gang raped by Lashkar-e-Toiba militants for two months.

High drama was witnessed at the police station in Baderwah when the woman, Shah Bano Begum, identified one of the militants Imitiyaz during an identification parade. She thrashed him in front of the policemen and broke down.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Doda, Prabhat Singh said some of the suspects were brought to police station for identification.

Kashmir separatist demand release of leaders under house-arrest

Jammu and Kashmir MapSrinagar, Jan. 30 : A large number of people took to streets in Srinagar to protest detentions of various separatist leaders since Jammu and Kashmir State Assembly elections were held here.

The slogan shouting protesters were led by a senior seperatist leader Shabir Ahmed.

"Till the time our leaders are not released from house arrest, we will continue to protest," said Ahmad, a Muslim League leader.

Local security personnel had to use tear gas after the protesters resorted to heavy stone pelting on them.
