Jammu and Kashmir Government sets up winter secretariat in Srinagar

Srinagar, Jan. 18 : The Jammu and Kashmir Government has set up its winter secretariat in Srinagar, providing major relief for the local populace.

The shift took place from Jammu and it was begun from January 13.

State Government ministers have been directed to take turns to stay in Srinagar for fifteen days at a stretch to address the day-to-day problems of the people.

Srinagar rally against Israeli attacks on Gaza

Jammu and Kashmir MapSrinagar, Jan. 16 : Hundreds of people led by functionaries of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Forum (JKLF) staged a rally on Friday to protest against continuing attacks by Israel against Palestinians in Gaza.

Carrying anti-Israel placards and photographs of victims of Israeli bombing, the protestors raised slogans and ridiculed the Israel national flag.

Miliband''s views on Kashmir irk India

New Delhi, Jan 16 : India does not need unsolicited advice on internal issues like Jammu and Kashmir, an Indian Foreign Ministry official said on Thursday in response to British Foreign Secretary David Miliband linking Kashmir to terrorism.

"Foreign Secretary Miliband is entitled to his views, which are clearly his own and are evolving. India is a free country and, even if we do not share his view, he is free to express them. However, we do not need unsolicited advice on internal issues in India like Jammu and Kashmir," said Vishnu Prakash, Joint Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs.

Two ultras, 2 cops killed in Rajouri encounterJammu, Jan. 14: Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were killed in an encounter with the Jammu and Kashmir police in Dharamsaal belt under Kalakote tehsil of Rajouri today.

The police also lost its two men in the gun battle, however three ultras managed to escape.

On a tip-off that militants were hiding in the forest area of the belt, the police launched a cordon and search operation in the afternoon. As the cops zeroed in and asked the militants to surrender, the latter opened fire at the police party.

Grenade attack in Kashmir

Grenade attack in KashmirSrinagar, Jan 13: One person was injured as suspected militants lobbed a grenade at a bus stand in Srinagar on Tuesday.

The attack took place at around 10:00 a. m. when some persons threw a grenade at the Batmaloo bus stand in the city, which is near the State police headquarters.

The attack alerted the personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), who were stationed at a checkpost near the bus stand, who immediately tried to chase the miscreants.

One person sustained splinter injuries on his right leg.

Kashmiris protest against Israeli attacks on Gaza strip

Srinagar, Jan 12 : Youths gathered here to protest against the continuing aggression of Israel against Palestine.

Separatist leader Altaf Khan, head of Jammu Kashmir Peoples Freedom League (JKPFL) lead the protest.

The protestors marched around Lal Chowk area, raised anti-Israel and anti-American slogans and expressed their solidarity with the Palestinians.
