Kinnaur (Himachal Pradesh), Dec 25 : Himachal Pradesh Police has claimed to have arrested four Nepalese nationals, who were trying to smuggle maple wood from Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district to their country on Thursday.

A case has been registered under the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPc) and Forest Act against the arrested four, who had come to India to get logs and hunks of wood, which would be used in prayers, and for making bowls and other crockery, the police said.

Kinnaur (Himachal Pradesh), Nov. 4 : A five-day tribal festival in Kinnaur valley of Himachal Pradesh which concluded on Tuesday enthralled the people by providing a glimpse of the rich tradition and folk forms of the State.

“Pre-Lavi” festival was organized to offer a platform to the traditional artistes to showcase their talent.

Hundreds of tribals from different parts of Kinnaur valley participated in the extravaganza to showcase their unique attire, dance, music, and food.

Kinnaur (HP), Mar 21 : Hundreds of tribal men and women marched with wood cutting tools and lopped tree branches demanding acceptance of their rights on forest trees.

Under the banner of Himachal Kisan Sabha, they lopped tree branches and raised slogans for their rights of gathering fuels woods in jungles.

Protesters lamented that the State Government has barred people from their legitimate rights over fuel wood and timber distribution.

Kinnaur (Himachal Pradesh), Feb 18 : Tribals and other forest dwellers in Himachal Pradesh protested against non-implementation of forest rights in Kinnaur recently.

The protestors alleged that the government of Himachal Pradesh was not implementing the Central law Scheduled Tribes (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act that gave rights to tribals cultivating forestland for decades.
