London, Nov 11: A BBC presenter has been fired after asking a taxi firm not to send an Asian cabbie to pick up her teenage daughter.

Sam Mason, 40, who joined BBC Radio Bristol in September, called the taxi firm off-air when she was playing a song on her afternoon show, The Telegraph reported.

The firm, which records messages routinely in case of queries or complaints, recorded her speaking to the operator about her daughter and telling her “A guy with a turban on is going to freak her out. I know this sounds really racist but I’m not being... please don’t send anyone like, you know what I mean, An English person would be great.”

London - A terminally-ill teenager in Britain has won the right to die after she was taken to court by her local hospital in an attempt to force her to have a heart transplant against her wishes, reports said Tuesday.

Hannah Jones, 13, wanted to die with dignity but child protection officers were drafted in and threatened to remove her from her parents' custody to force her to undergo surgery.

London, Nov 11 : University of Liverpool scientists have devised a new therapy programme that will help depressed new mums in developing countries beat the blues.

Professor Atif Rahman from the School of Population, Community and Behavioural Sciences was the one who developed the therapy programme while working as a Wellcome Trust Career Fellow in Tropical Medicine in Rawalpindi, Pakistan.

"Depression is one of the leading causes of mental illness in the world and when the condition affects mothers with newborn babies, it can lead to serious consequences" Lancet quoted him as saying.

And scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, even coined a new word to describe their creation - "omniphobic" - meaning it hates everything.

The material has a surface texture that can force away watery and oily liquids into tight droplets.

The material''s surface consists of 300-nanometer-tall "toadstools" with broad silicon dioxide caps and narrow silicon stems.
