Ants better than humans at beating traffic jams

AntsLondon, Nov 7: Even insects can prove useful in solving our day-to-day problems, as seen from a study of a colony of ants and the way they unclog traffic jams.

Dirk Helbing from the Dresden University of Technology in Germany says that watching the tiny little insects manoeuvre themselves around their colony with efficiency, could give an idea to humans and help them understand how traffic jams can be avoided and inspire more effective routing of road traffic.

He and his colleagues came to this conclusion after studying how ants move around their colony, reports New Scientist magazine.

BA half-year profits tumble in turbulent environment

British Airways (BA)London - Pre-tax profits at British Airways (BA) fell by a staggering 91.6 per cent in first half of the company's financial year, figures showed Friday.

BA said pre-tax profit totalled 52 million pounds (83 million dollars), between April and September, down from 616 million pounds a year ago.

BA chief executive Willie Walsh said the period would "be remembered as one of the bleakest on record."

However, given the "difficult circumstances" under which BA had been operating, the result was acceptable.

The former Big Brother star has revealed that the 33-year-old Bollywood star calls her every month to find out about her health.

“Next time she is here, we’ll go for something to eat,” the Sun quoted Goody, as telling New! Mag.

Goody was accused of bullying and being racist to Shetty on Celebrity Big Brother in 2007.

The pair made up when Goody went to Indian to participate on Indian BB, hosted by Shilpa.

Oxford's top ten most irritating phrases

London, Nov 7 : There are some phrases and words that drive us literally mad. Now, researchers at Oxford University have compiled a list of top ten most irritating expressions.

The expression ''at the end of the day'' topped the list while the phrase ''fairly unique'' came second.

The tautological statement "I personally" landed the third spot and the grammatically incorrect "shouldn''t of", instead of "shouldn''t have" was also included in the top ten.

The enraging misusages appear in Jeremy Butterfield''s book called ''Damp Squid'', named after the mistake of confusing a squid with a squib, a type of firework.
