London, Oct 7: A new study that directly links population declines in birds to climate change, has determined that birds that haven’t adjusted to the realities of a warming world are worse off than their more flexible counterparts, and could become extinct within a number of years.

According to a report in New Scientist, the findings, by Diego Rubolini of the University of Milan, Italy, and colleagues, are based on more than four decades of migration observations and population estimates of 98 European migratory bird species.

London, Oct 7: Hurricane-sized whirlpools have been spotted spiralling on the surface of the Sun, confirming theories about how material convects in the Sun’s roiling outer layers.

The scalding soup of charged particles, or plasma, in the outer 30 percent of the Sun is thought to rise and fall in churning cells, like macaroni bobbing in a pot of boiling water.

After the hot material rises, it releases energy and falls downwards. Because it already has some sideways motion, this cooler plasma should spiral into the Sun as it falls – like water running down a bathtub drain.

London, Oct. 7: Britain’s first black cop has rubbished a move by the National Black Police Association to prevent the recruitment of ethnic minorities in the Metropolitan police force via a boycott.

Norwell Roberts warned the NBPA that such a “drastic” decision may “bite them in the bum”.

The ex-detective sergeant who spent 30 years in the Met after joining in 1967, said: “Taking such drastic action will be counter-productive.

London, Oct. 7: British Home Secretary Jacqui Smith has announced that the Gordon Brown Government will undertake a nationwide assessment of how ethnic minorities are treated by the police during recruitment drives as the race row surrounding the Metropolitan force continues.

According to The Mirror, Smith said that Police Minister Vernon Coaker would carry out a rapid, two-week examination of the recruitment and promotion prospects of minorities.

London, Oct. 7 : The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has been forced to revise his inquiry into racism in the Metropolitan Police after a frosty reception from the force''s governing body.

Johnson had proposed the inquiry after a black police officers group criticized the "hostile and racist environment" at Scotland Yard and called on ethnic minority recruits to boycott the Met.

London - Britain is already in a "worsening recession" and is facing the dual threat of slowing growth and rising unemployment, a survey of 5,000 companies by the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) said Tuesday.

The report said sales and profits had plummeted over the summer amid a worsening economic outlook and the prospect of rising unemployment as confidence had "collapsed" across all sectors of the industry.
