Marooned cattle at Madhepura too helpless to complain

biharMadhepura (Bihar), Sep. 18 : Government agencies, including Indian Army Jawans, have been busy evacuating flood-hit people in Bihar, but the silent onlookers of the process have been dumb cattle who have been suffering silently for many days.

The cattle have been watching men being ferried on boats from flood hit areas to high grounds, but the Army Jawans do not seem worried about the cattle. Taking them to high ground also does not seem to be a priority for the State run agencies.

West Bengal team in Bihar for flood-related rescue work

Bihar FloodMadhepura, Sept 5 : A team of 72 rescue workers, from West Bengal are lending a helping hand in rescuing people in Bihar’s flood ravaged Madhepura District.

Hailing from the hill town of Darjeeling in West Bengal, the award winning team, comprising both men and women, rescued trapped villagers in Laxmipur village, which has been completely inundated.

Called in by a local news channel, the team rescued around 150 villagers from the flood-hit village on Thursday.

Flood victims loot relief material in Bihar

Madhepura (Bihar), Sep 2: Flood victims in Bihar''s rain-drenched Madhepura District are looting relief material as the deluge continues to affect life across the state.

Some victims aided a government-run depot storing food materials.

Victims said the flooded areas were facing sn acute shortage of essential supplies.

"People are hungry and they are running from pillar to post to get food. Instead of food, we got baton charged by the police. We want food," said Kumar, a victim.

Officials said the victims'' patience snapped when the officer manning the depot tried to impose some restriction in food distribution.

Several feared dead as rescue boat capsizes in Bihar

BiharMadhepura , August 29 (ANI): Several people are fear dead as a boat carrying flood victims capsized in the swollen Kosi in Bihar''s Madhepura district during a rescue mission on Friday.

Reportedly, 100 people were traveling in the boat and only four can be saved.

Superintendent of Police O. N. Bhaskar said the private boat sank near Mirganj in Murliganj block of the district this evening.

The rescue teams of the Army and National Disaster Response Force have been pressed into service to locate the bodies and possible survivors, he said.

Flooded Kosi affects one million people in Bihar

BiharMadhepura, Aug 26 (ANI): The swollen Kosi River breaking its embankments and changing course has ravaged many villages on its way to join the river Ganges affecting over a million people in Bihar.

Kosi River flows from Nepal to India and is known as the ''Sorrow of Bihar'' for the havoc it wreaks in many districts of the eastern state each year.

Reports say floods have caused large-scale loss of life and property in six eastern districts of the state following an over 2,000-metre breach in the Kosi embankment in the Nepal region.
