Bomb attack frightens tourists in southern Spain, no injuries

Madrid - A bomb exploded early Tuesday at the southern Spanish beach resort of Torremolinos on the Costa del Sol, with no injuries reported, police told local media.

The explosion at 12:20 am (2220 Monday GMT) was under a footbridge and near two hotels. There was no warning before the explosion.

Police have cordoned off the area and are investigating whether it was an attack by the Basque terrorist organization ETA.

A hotel employee told El Mundo newspaper that many hotel guests, primarily Spainards and British, were scared and reported seeing dark clouds of smoke.

Bomb attack damages construction firm in northern Spain

SpainMadrid- A bomb attack attributed to the Basque separatist group ETA in northern Spain damaged a construction company but there were no injuries, police said.

The explosion in the town of Orio, near the port city of San Sebastian, damaged some equipment sheds and several vehicles, police said.

The construction company is involved in building a motorway linking the industrial city of Bilbao and the French border.

Two ETA suspects detained in France

Two ETA suspects detained in FranceMadrid - French police Friday detained two important suspected members of the militant Basque separatist group ETA, Spanish police said.

Asier Eceiza, 30, regarded as one of the deputies of ETA's military leader Mikel Garikoitz Aspiazu alias Txeroki, and Olga Comes were held after they tried to drive through a police checkpoint near Dijon and lost control of their vehicle.

The two, who were armed, did not resist arrest.

Comes was believed to belong to ETA's Vizcaya cell, its most active unit, which was dismantled with the arrests of nine suspects in Spain on Tuesday.

Spanish police discover ETA arms cache

Madrid - Spanish police have discovered an arms cache of the militant Basque separatist group ETA, police confirmed Thursday.

The cache, which was found near Ezcaray in the northern Rioja region following the dismantling of the most important ETA cell on Tuesday, contained an automatic rifle, tools for stealing cars and tranquillizers.

The discovery followed the arrests of nine suspects associated with ETAs so-called Vizcaya complex, including its leader Arkaitz Goikoetxea, on Tuesday.

The cell was planning a large-scale car bombing before the end of the month in the Basque locality of Getxo, where one of the detainees lived and where ETA has staged several attacks, press reports said.

Nine suspected members of ETA's Vizcaya cell, including its leader Arkaitz Goikoetxea, were arrested on Tuesday.

Police seized maps of touristic southern Spanish cities such as Cadiz, Seville, Granada and Huelva, a general one of the Costa del Sol region, and a map of the Portuguese capital Lisbon.
