Infosys’ Mysore unit gets CISF

The Mysore facility of Infosys Technologies was provided with Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) cover on Friday. This was given to protect the unit from any kind of external threat.
Mysore campus of Infosys is the second largest facility of the IT giant after its unit in Bangalore.
This news was made public during a press announcement which was done on Friday. During the occasion, the Chief Mentor of Infosys, N. R. Narayana Murthy was present along with Home minister V. S. Acharya and CISF Inspector General R. K. Mishra.
K.S. Aswath, veteran Kannada actor, is dead
Submitted by Supreet Sharma on Mon, 01/18/2010 - 11:22.Mysore, Jan 18 - K. S. Aswath, veteran Kannada actor who was in a coma for past three days at a hospital here has died early Monday, a family source said. He was 85.
He died at 2.00 a. m. in Mysore's Bannappa Hospital where he was receiving treatment for past seven days.
The doctors at the hospital attributed his death to the multiple organ failure.
He leaves behind his wife, two sons and two daughters.
His son, Shankar Aswath, also an actor, has confirmed his death to the media.
His body will be laid out at 8.00 a. m. in Jaware Gowda Park in Saraswathipuram for public viewing. (IANS)
Sex workers, transgenders run restaurant for HIV+ people and fight social stigma

Mysore, Dec. 26 : Sex workers and transgenders in Mysore city of Karnataka are running a restaurant and serve traditional south Indian food to guests as a way of raising funds for HIV positive people and fighting social stigma.
Ashodaya, a small restaurant, opened in Mysore, is an enterprise run by 12 male and female sex workers and transgenders.
The restaurant named “Ashodaya Hotel” was opened with the aim of reducing discrimination and the social stigma attached to people from the sex-worker community.

She was speaking after inaugurating the Infosys technology campus in Mysore.
The Global Education centre of the company has been set up at a cost of 800 crore rupees.
Gandhi complimented Infosys for making largest single building as well as the largest training complex in Asia.
Third death due to dengue in Mysore

Within a fortnight, dengue has taken third life in Mysore. Twenty-year-old Prathibha died on Friday morning. She was tested positive for dengue.
She was a resident of EWS Colony on New Kantharaja Urs road. Earlier 13-year-old Sowmya of Udayagiri and Neelu (14) from VV Mohalla had lost their lives due to dengue.
Prathibha lost her consciousness a day before she died. She died due to multiple organ failure. She had brain edema, a viral infection.
Engineering student dies of dengue in Mysore

An engineering student named Prathibha, 19, died of dengue on Friday morning while undergoing treatment at the Apollo Hospital in Mysore.
Confirming the development, Dr HS Manjunath, District Malaria Officer said that Prathibha had tested positive for dengue.
Initially, the victim was admitted in Kamakshi Hospital on August 29 last month.
However, on September 2, she was shifted to Apollo Hospital.
Prathibha had suffered from multiple organ failure and cardiac arrest.
It is learnt that she had lost consciousness a day before she died.
Ram Sene Chief Mutalik’s judicial custody ends today

Mysore, July 28 : The judicial custody of Sriram Sene Chief Pramod Mutalik, who was arrested for allegedly making inflammatory speech at Kyathamaranahalli, a Mysore suburb, in April this year, ends today.
On July 25, the Sessions Court sent him to judicial custody till today.
Mutalik, who had visited Kyathamaranahalli after the communal clashes in April, had allegedly addressed a gathering of local residents in the locality. The Police had registered a case.

Pro Kannada activists attacks railway examination centres in Mysore
Submitted by Sahil Nagpal on Sun, 07/05/2009 - 22:51.Mysore, July 5 : Railway recruitment examination centre were attacked by the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (Pravin Shetty Group), demanding more preference Kannadigas in railway jobs here today.
The activists entered the examination hall in Yuvaraj College, and shouted pro Kannada slogans. They also snatched the answer sheets and admission cards from the candidates, and pulled them out of the examination centre.
Nearly 400 candidates from different parts of the country were appearing for Group-C ticket collectors (TC) examination, conducted by South Western Railway. The activists attacked the examination centre suspecting that more non-Kannada speaking candidates are appearing for the examination.
Mysore shutdown evokes mixed response

Mysore July 4 : A dawn to dusk shutdown call given by the Hindu Jagaran Vedike in protest against an attack on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) youth leader evoked a mixed response here today.
Normal life was partially affected by the shutdown.
It may be recalled that a mob armed with weapons attacked Giridhar, the President of Mysore unit of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), and his friend Wajid on Friday evening. Giridhar is said to in critical condition at Mysore's Apollo Hospital.
2 killed, 3 injured in Mysore communal clash

Mysore, July 2 : Two persons were killed and three others injured, as two communities armed with batons and weapons clashed over an alleged desecration of a religious school in Mysore district of Karnataka on Thursday.
According to the police, they had to resort to lathi-charge and use teargas shells to disperse the crowd, as the news about the desecration angered members of one community, who came out with weapons and batons onto the streets and had a scuffle with members of another community.
Karnataka CM Announces Opening Of Two Cardiology Centres At Mysore, Hubli

The minister announced this during the annual governing council meeting of Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology on Friday.
The minister said that the cardiac institute will be established within Mysore Medical College campus covering around 10,000 sq ft area.
The Mysore branch having 60-bed facility would start functioning by September this year (2009).

JK Tyre & Industries, a leading automobile tyre manufacturer, sketched an investment plan worth Rs 270 crore for expanding its production capacity of off-the-road (OTR) tyres by 2011.
The company currently has 42 per cent share in the 95,000-units domestic OTR market in the country, which are used for application like mining and excavation.
Mysore Police takes Sri Ram Sene chief into custody

Mysore, Apr. 6 : Sri Ram Sene leader Pramod Muthalik was taken into preventive custody on Monday.
"Muthalik had come to visit the Kyatharamanhalli suburb, where group clashes took place this week," Mysore police said, adding that the prohibitory orders had been imposed in the area under Section 144.
"Muthalik was taken into preventive custody as soon as he landed in Mysore," they said.
The Sri Ram Sene was involved in an attack on a Mangalore pub in January.

Mysore (Karnataka), Feb. 9 : Angry Bharatiya Janata Party supporters protested here on Saturday against the Deputy Commissioner Manivannan for allegedly making a false announcement about the death of former prime minister and BJP leader Atal Behari Vajpayee this past week.
The false information caused a lot of confusion here recently after some farmer leaders, led by one Kurbur Shantakumar, arrived at the Deputy Commissioner's office for a scheduled meeting last week.
Jamshedpur Utilities bags order worth Rs 152 crore

The pact to this effect was signed on Tuesday between Jamshedpur Utilities, Mysore City Corporation and Karnataka Urban Water Supply & Drainage Board.
The project, to be executed in three phases over a period of six years, will utilize the already sanctioned JNNURM fund (80 % of the project cost) for improving the water supply infrastructure in Mysore city.
While the rest of funding will be provided equally by the Karnataka Government and Mysore City Corporation.
L&T finally decides to retain its Mysore-based Medical Equip Biz

L&T’s MED has been providing a broad range of medical equipment which includes advanced ultrasound scanners and patient monitoring systems with a distribution network, which is spread throughout the country.
The company stated in an official release that, “In view of the overwhelming demand from our customers the L&T management has decided to retain the medical equipment business.”
The decision takes into account the interest of all stockholders, including customers and distributors, the release added.
Mysore-based Tibetans protest against China

Mysore (Karnataka), Mar. 26 : As Chinese law enforcement personnel continued their crackdown on Tibetans in Lhasa and in other parts of Tibet, Tibetan monks and settlers based in Mysore participated in a protest march against China today.
The placard holding protesters shouted slogans against Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and appealed to the United Nations to intervene and save thousands of Tibetans languishing in Tibet from China’s clutches.
