Pak’s efforts to scuttle India’s move for permanent SC seat receive setback

Washington, Sept 18: Pakistan's efforts to scuttle India’s bid to get a permanent seat in an expanded UN Security Council reportedly suffered a serious setback when the UN General Assembly recently decided to conduct ‘inter-governmental negotiations’ on reforming the Security Council, instead of leaving the matter to the Open-ended Working Group.

In the Working Group, Pakistan, Italy and Argentina have been effectively blocking the induction of any new permanent members since 2005, when India, Brazil, Germany and Japan made an official bid for permanent membership of the UN.

Taliban kill ''US spy''Landi Kotal (Pakistan), Sept 18: The Pakistan unit of Taliban, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has reportedly killed an Afghan national who, according to them, used to spy on them for the United States forces in Afghanistan.

The Afghan national who was killed in Khyber Agency was identified as one Zainullah, the Daily Times reported.

After killing him, the Taliban dumped his body near the Government Degree College in Landi Kotal.

A native of the Afghan province of Nangarhar, Zainullah had been living in Malagori area of Jamrud tehsil, the Daily Times reported.

Only 3 ministers, 2 officials to accompany Zardari to US

Washington, Sept 18 : Only 3 ministers, 2 officials to accompany Zardari to USNewly-elected Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari is all set to break the tradition of taking along a huge delegation on foreign visits. He will be accompanied by only three ministers and two officials on his New York visit beginning September 22.

Contrary to the practice of past heads of states, of taking along 100-member delegation, including his predecessor Pervez Musharraf, there will be no media delegation accompanying the President.

Taliban threaten Pak woman to stop working with USAID

Peshawar, Sept 18: Once again marking their presence in Peshawar, three Taliban operatives snatched away the car, cash and valuables from a Pakistani woman working with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and threatened to kill her if she didn’t stop working for the US organization.

Dr Aneesa Arif, the female USAID employee, said that three armed men with long hair and beards stopped her in front of her house in Hayatabad and demanded she stop working for USAID.

According to her, the men told her they were Taliban and would kill her if she did not stop working. Dr Aneesa said the Taliban stole her car, bearing registration number 
7522, cash and valuables, and fled the scene, reported the Daily Times.

US "wants to work with Pakistan", says Boucher Brussels - The United States "wants to work with Pakistan" to boost security along its border with Afghanistan despite the row over US attacks into Pakistani territory, a senior US official said Wednesday in Brussels.

"We want to work with the Pakistanis because we know that long-term stability and security is only going to come from them," US Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.
