Lahore, Sept 10: Officials at the Afghan embassy in Islamabad have claimed that one of the three sons of Pakistan-American neuroscientist Dr Aafia Siddiqi was in Afghan authorities’ custody, and that he would be repatriated to Pakistan only after legal formalities were completed.
Dr Aafia is facing a trial in the US for being a terror suspect, after being arrested in Afghanistan last month. She is being tried for trying to kill American sleuths with a gun after being nabbed in Kabul while moving around in suspicious circumstances.
Lahore, Sept 10 : The chief of Al Qaeda’s Pakistan unit, Abu Haris is learnt to have been killed in missile strikes by the US in the Miranshah tribal area on Monday night. A total of 26 persons were killed in the attack.
According to sources close to a Taliban commander Jalaluddin Haqqani, four guards and two wives of the commander were also killed in the attack. While four missiles hit a madrassa run by Haqqani, three landed in populated areas.
It could not be known if Haqqani was present at the seminary at the time of the strike.
Lahore, Sept 10: Pakistan Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that the US was targeting innocent people in Pakistani tribal area of Waziristan, and that his Government “will not make any compromise on Pakistan’s sovereignty and integrity”.
Gilani said this in a TV interview.
“Pakistan was passing through a difficult phase, but would not give in to any pressure,” the Daily Times quoted him as saying in the interview.
Islamabad, Sept 10 : Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai have reportedly resolved to stand together in the fight against terrorism. The two said at a joint press conference held here last evening shortly after Zardari was sworn in as the Pakistan’s President.
New Delhi, Sept. 9 : A former Indian envoy to Pakistan, G. Parthasarthi, said on Tuesday that all nuclear programms initiated by Pakistan were Chinese in origin.
Speaking at a discussion here, Parthasarathi said: "Pakistan''s nuclear programme was being conducted by the Chinese. "There is no Pakistan nuclear programme. All are Chinese."
