Fuel storage fire paralyzes San Juan, Puerto Rico

san-juan-islandsSan Juan, Puerto Rico - Police evacuated part of the Puerto Rican capital San Juan on Friday after an explosion at a fuel storage facility sparked a huge fire.

The explosion - which was heard in a radius of several kilometres - brought down roofs and broke window panes. The subsequent fire was still burning many hours later, while a huge black cloud hung over much of the city.

No one was reported seriously injured, but the authorities were busy evacuating the area, including many homes and a prison that holds 1,700 inmates.

Eight killed in attack on Puerto Rican barSan Juan, Puerto Rico  - An attack on a bar in Puerto Rico left eight people dead and 20 other injured, local media reported Sunday.

Two attackers opened fire in the La Tombola bar in Toa Baja on the Caribbean island's north coast shortly before midnight Saturday, El Nuevo Dia newspaper said.

An eight-month pregnant woman was among those shot, killing the baby in her womb. The woman was in critical condition in hospital.
