Sana'a, Yemen - A Yemeni court of appeals concluded on Saturday its hearings into the terrorism charges against US citizen of Yemeni origin Jaber al-Banna, and said it would deliver its verdict on October 11.
The court held a wrap-up hearing, in which prosecutors and defence lawyers presented their final arguments.
Chief prosecutor Saeed al-Aaqil asked the court to confirm the 10- year jail term against al-Banna, who is wanted by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on terrorism charges.
Sana'a, Yemen - A Yemeni court on Monday sentenced 12 Shiites, including a prominent opposition journalist, to up to 10 years in prison and another to death for plotting attacks in support of rebels fighting army forces in northern Yemen.
The court sentenced the main defendant, Ja'afar al-Merhebi, to death for killing two police officers as they raided his house in the capital Sana'a last year.
Four other men received 10-year jail terms each, and two others were sentenced to eight years in prison. Six others, including a woman, were sentenced to jail terms varying from one to six years.
Another woman was acquitted of the charge of providing shelter for al-Merhebi.
Sana'a, Yemen - Yemen's parliament on Saturday lifted for the second time the immunity of a lawmaker whose brother is leading Shiite rebels battling government forces in northern the Arab state.
Sana'a - Yemen welcomed on Friday the call by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas for a national dialogue based on a Yemeni plan to end the inter-Palestinian dispute.
"Yemen has comfortably received the call by the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to hold a national dialogue," Yemeni Foreign Minister Abu-Bakr al-Qerbi said in remarks carried by official media.
