Retail inflation falls to 9.86% in JulyAccording to the latest data released by the government, the retail inflation in the country has slightly fallen to the level of 9.86 per cent in July. The headline Inflation as measured by the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) had also declined to 6.87 per cent in July.

The fall was mainly due to the fall in prices of spices, cereals and its products as it helped offset the high prices of vegetables during the month in the country. The inflation figure for June was revised to 9.93 per cent from the provisional estimate of 10.02 per cent based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

The government data release In New Delhi on Tuesday showed that Vegetable prices rose 27.33 per cent, edible oils prices increased 17.37 per cent and pulses and its products recorded a hike of 12.49 per cent in prices during the month compared to the earlier year.

Prices of egg, fish and meat increased 11.11 per cent and prices of non-alcoholic beverages rose 9.26 per cent. The prices of cereal and its products also recorded an increase during the month of 6.45 per cent compared to the same month in the previous year.

The Inflation in rural areas was recorded at 9.76 per cent while that for urban areas was at 10.10 per cent.
