Rowling fairytales on track to become Christmas bestseller

London - The Tales of Beedle The Bard by Harry Potter- author JK Rowling have generated 4.2 million pounds (6.3 million dollars) for charity after just a week on sale, figures showed Wednesday.

The charity Children's High Level Group (CHLG), which helps abandoned children in institutions across Eastern Europe, said 2.6 million copies of the hand-illustrated tales had sold in the first week after publication on December 4.

The book was on track to become a Christmas bestseller, it said.

"I am absolutely delighted that so much money has been raised," Rowling said Wednesday. I would like to thank everyone who has so far purchased a copy of the book."

She repeated that all royalties will be going to "help children without families, many of them with disabilities, whose voices have been unheard for many years." (dpa)
