UP’s CM Favors Quota For Poor Among Upper Castes

UP's CM MayawatiNew Delhi: Apparently setting schedule for the forthcoming elective politics at national level, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati proposed reservation for poor amongst Upper castes as also quota in private sector and ‘other sectors’ for SC and ST.

While addressing a press conference, the BSP chief required the Prime Minister to alter the Constitution to set reservation policy in the 9th Schedule, actually in a bid to put a stop to judicial inquiry.

“A large number of people of the upper castes not only in UP, but all over the country were leading a miserable life due to lack of special assistance. Such people should be provided benefits of reservation policy on the basis of their economic condition,” she said.

She alleged these people should be allowed reservation in public, private and other sectors. Her supplication for SC and ST reservation in private sector has come at a time when the industry headmen are contradicting any such move and as a substitute stating their willingness for positive action for frailer divisions like training and scholarships.

According to the reservation policy the BSP supremo, who met Prime Minister desired that the quota of SC, ST and OBC should be filled up throughout the country.

She didn’t delineate the ‘other sectors’ that have remained out of reservation field. There have been demands from certain segments for quota in judiciary and defense.
