Samsung to focus on netbook segmentSamsung, global electronic appliances manufacturer, announced that the company has shifted its focus to the mid-screen segment.

In recent years, the South Korean electronics firm has gained immense popularity in India for its big screen (LCD TV) and small screen (mobile phones) products. The company is now committed to make its presence felt in the mid-screen segment, which includes netbook and notebook PCs.

Mr. Seongwoo Nam, general manager, computer systems division, Samsung digital media and communications business has said that they have earned number one spot in big screen and number two spot in small screen segment in India.

Now, the company is willing to acquire one of the top three spots within the next two years in the section of notebook as well as netbook.

According to Seongwoo, the company’s IT business in India would witness a growth with the introduction of new models of netbook and notebook PCs.

Mr. Nam added that they are satisfied with the customer response to their products. He also said that they are planning to grab 7-8 per cent market share by next year.

Currently, HP is the market leader in notebook PCs and netbook segment with a 30.9 per cent market shares. Dell is at second spot, while third place is attained by Acer.
