Gelsenkirchen, Germany - Dutch midfielder Orlando Engelaar is set to leave Germany's Schalke 04 for Greek side Panathinaikos, the Bundesliga club said Monday.

"The transfer is not yet sealed but it looks as though it will be all clear," Schalke chairman Josef Schnusenberg said in Gelsenkirchen.

Engelaar, 28, joined Schalke from FC Twente for 5.5 million euros (7.6 million dollars) last summer after impressing with the Dutch side at Euro 2008.

But the midfielder did not fulfil expectations in a Schalke side that struggled in a season which saw Dutch coach Fred Rutten - also Engelaar's coach at Twente - dismissed in April. (dpa)
