Scotland captain and goalkeeper dropped for disciplinary reasons

Scotland captain and goalkeeper dropped for disciplinary reasons London - Scotland captain Barry Ferguson and goalkeeper Allan McGregor have both been dropped for Scotland's World Cup qualifier against Iceland Wednesday for disciplinary reasons.

"Due to a breach of team discipline, they will not play," a Scottish Football Association spokesman told the BBC.

"However, they could still join the squad at Hampden for the match."

Coach George Burley took the decision after the players allegedly stayed up drinking at the team hotel following Saturday's 3-0 loss to the Netherlands when the rest of the team had gone to their rooms.

Scotland currently lie third in Group 9, a massive nine points behind the Dutch. Only the top team is guaranteed qualification to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Ferguson has played 45 times for Scotland but has only made one appearance in the last 14 months due to injury. Glasgow Rangers team- mate McGregor has been capped four times by his country. (dpa)
