Security tightened along the Indo-Nepal border ahead of Nepal pollsGorakhpur (UP), Mar 10: Indian authorities have beefed up security along the Indo-Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh ahead of next month's elections in Nepal.

According to the Shashastra Seema Bal (SSB), all precautionary steps are being taken to ensure no spill over effect on Indian side from polls in Nepal.

"Before the elections, the border posts will be put on high alert. We would ensure there is no effect on the Indian side. For the same, we are sharing information and other steps are also being taken," said Gopal Sharma, a senior officer of the SSB.

Special camps are also being organised to train security forces to cope with violence.

Both India and Nepal claim that criminals are misusing the open 1,800 km border between the two countries.

Elections in Nepal are due to take place on April 10. Thereafter, a new Constitution will be declared, formally ending that country's nearly 240-year-old royal rule. (ANI)
