Displacing fellow opener, good friend and his Delhi daredevil team mate Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag has climbed up the ladder to make it to the no. 1 spot on the ICC test cricket rankings. He scored a brisk 165 in the Kolkata Test sending the South African bowlers in disarray. India also won that test later on to stay on the top test team and get a reward of $1, 75,000 on April 1. Before the Kolkata test he scored a 109 in Nagpur but was in vain as India eventually lost the match.

Sehwag currently has the lead with 863 points, while Gambhir owing to his poor performance has dropped to fifth place with 824 points. With a tremendous average of 108.98 Sehwag has fared really well in all the 6 tests that he has played this season and has 2 centuries in 4 matches this year
