Sensex Ends 152 Pts Up; Nifty Closes Near 5K

Sensex The Sensex marked its closure on a healthy note led by teck, Auto, IT and metal scrips.

However, consumer durables and real estate stocks performed weakly.

After opening the day at 16,693.15, down 2.88 points, on Friday, following pessimistic worldwide signs, the 30-share-index Sensex remained flat during the early trade. Later, it gained come strength on the back of continued buying action witnessed across funds. It continued to trade in the positive terrain to finally end the week on a bright note.

The BSE Midcap index surged 0.02%, while the BSE Smallcap index increased 0.20%.

At last, Sensex closed the day at 16,848.83, up 152.80 points, after hitting an intraday peak of 16,909.74 and an intraday low of 16,666.70.

In contrast, the broad-based NSE Nifty surged 46.30 points to end the week at 4,998.95. It also touched an intraday high of 5,017.90 and an intraday low of 4,942.65.

Among the sectoral indices, BSE Metal remained up by 1.66 per cent, IT went up 1.51 per cent, Auto rose 1.50 per cent, TECk zoomed 1.12 per cent and Oil & Gas surged 1.05 per cent, while BSE Realty declined 0.9 per cent, Consumer Durables dropped 0.87 per cent.

The top gainers in the Sensex pack included TCS, ONGC, Hero Honda, Tata Steel, Maruti Suzuki and Rel Capital.

The major losers in the Sensex included JP Asso, Mah & Mah, DLF, RCom and Tata Power.

On worldwide front, European stocks surged for a third straight session as Compagnie Financiere Richemont SA declared better-than- anticipated profit and British Airways Plc decided to combine with Iberia Lineas Aereas de Espana SA.

Europe's Dow Jones Stoxx 600 Index surged 0.20% to 247.06 as of 8:45 a. m. in London, stretching a 3-week peak.

UK's benchmark index FTSE 100 gained 3.23 points at 5,279.73. French benchmark index CAC 40 dropped 13.63 points to 3,794.43. Germany's benchmark index DAX surged 8.46 points at 5,672.42 (4.15 p. m.)
