Sensex Ends 28 Pts Down; Nifty Falls 0.14%The Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) shut the shop at 18,143.99 after shedding 28.84 points (0.16%) as against its last closure at 18,172.83.

On the other hand, the broad-based Nifty closed the week at 5,439.25 after registering a loss of 0.14% as compared to its last closing figure of 5,447.1.

Broader markets indices also ended on a dull note.

The BSE midcap index closed 0.16% higher and the BSE smallcap index 0.24% up.

The stocks from consumer durables, FMCG and auto sectors gained, whereas banking and IT stocks witnessed selling pressure.

The top gainers on the Sensex comprised ITC, Tata Motors, HDFC and Jindal Steel.

The major losers list included Hero Honda, Tata Steel, TCS, and DLF.

As per SEBI figures, FIIs purchased scrips worth $36.21 million on August 06.

Other Asian stock exchanges closed on a precautious note prior to US employment statistics due to be release on Friday.

The Japanese Nikkei gained 0.12% to mark its closure at 9,642.12, whereas Hong Kong's Hang Seng closed the trading session at 21,678.8, up 0.59%.

The Chinese Shanghai Composite closed on a positive note at 2,658.39, 1.43%.

The South Korean Kospi ended on a flat note.

European markets were ruling moderately higher, moving up from a dull opening based on upbeat corporate earnings data.

The FTSE was trading 0.65 percent higher at 5,400.62 points, while the German DAX was 0.4 percent up at 6,358.86 points.

The French CAC 40 was ruling 0.58 percent higher at 3,785.87 points.
