SGPC Yet To Give Clean Chit To ‘Singh Is Kinng,’ Says Makkar

The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) has not yet given SGPC Chief Avtar Singh Makkar a clean chit to Vipul Shah’s upcoming flick ‘Singh Is Kinng’ in which Akshay Kumar sports a closely trimmed beard that resulted into protestations from the Sikh community.

SGPC Chief Avtar Singh Makkar said that Akshay Kumar with a trimmed beard in his the movie could cause problem as it would set a bad example for Sikh youth.

He also said that it may persuade young Sikh fans to follow Akshay’s appearance in the film.

Another thing that maddened the Sikh community is a line of ‘Gurbani’ narrated incorrectly.

However, it was a grammatical mistake and the film maker has been demanded to re-dub it.

Makkar said, “We suggested that it would have been better if he had sported a full-grown beard.”

“We have advised the producer (Vipul Shah) to change the script, which portrays Akshay as a 'Patit Sikh' (a Sikh with trimmed beard), who later wants to rejoin the mainstream of Sikhs.”

He said that the film producer promised Sikhs in Mumbai on stamp paper that he will re-shoot the disagreeable parts.

“The producer will re-shoot those (objectionable) portions and after the post-production the film will be ready by July 12. After reviewing it, the Sikhs and two members from SGPC will give the clean chit,” Mr. Makkar added.

Sikh leader Gurbachan Singh Bachan (ex-secretary of SGPC) and his co-workers have already given clean chit to the film.
