Ahmedabad, Dec. 8: Latino music, that too figuring Shakira, may be unheard of in the villages of Gujarat, but it is being put to use in the election campaign.

The Congress party is making use of the Gujarati versions of Shakira's songs to woo voters.

A 'political' version of one of Shakira's hit numbers, sung by a Dr. Utpal and Anita Fernadis, is being used to amuse crowds at public meetings. The song, titled 'Panjo', represents the party's electoral symbol of an open palm.

"I recieved a call from the state unit of the Congress and asked me to prepare songs on Shakira using the Congress terminology and highlighting the symbol "Panjo', and we did exactly that. Some represents the work done by the Congress and also highlights the name of Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Rajiv and India Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi as well, " said Dr. Utpal, a music composer.

Not to be left behind, the Bharatiya Janata Party is making use of one of the most popular Gujarati folk songs, 'Sanedo', with political lyrics inserted into it.

The song sanedo was played out by some of the students as well.

`Sanedo' is a very famous form of song, and is especially popular in North Gujarat. So, we have taken that theme and it is dedicated to Modi's achievement in the state, " said Manoj Joshi, who composed four songs on Modi.

The campaign ends tomorow for 87 Assembly seats in Gujarat, but the party believes that the songs have definitely helped to woo voters to some extent.

Raju Dhruv, a BJP spokesperson, said the song was composed by the youth of Gujarat and the Chief Minister has a large number of fans across the state from the schools and colleges, and this was the song which has appealed to the youth the most.

Congress city president Jawant Sinh Bhatti too believes that songs by Shakira have indeed helped the Congress as the very tune is popular worldwide and the villagers have liked the songs well"

What remains to be seen is the kind of impact the music will have on the voters, and which party will face the music. (ANI)
