Social networking sites could help elderly in fighting loneliness

Social networking sites could help elderly in fighting loneliness In a symposium on "Needs and Rights of old Women" organised by AgeWell Foundation, Chief minister Sheila Dikshit stressed the need of tackling problem of loneliness among elderly.

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit suggested that getting connected on social networking sites could help aged persons in fighting loneliness. She suggested that social networking sites could help them in getting connected with their family and people of their same age.

Dikshit said: "Families are becoming smaller, with children moving out of the country, leaving elderly parents behind. Safety and loneliness of senior citizens has become a serious concern in the capital." Even if your children are outside the country, you can remain in touch through the net.

Dikshit personally invited all the members of Agewell Foundation for a round-table discussion in the Secretariat in order to take Agewell's initiative forward of educating older women about their needs and rights.

Various dignitaries present at the symposium expressed their views regarding problem of loneliness faced by the elderly living alone.
