Solar based postal delivery vehicle introduced by Pilot

Solar based postal delivery vehicle introduced by PilotSolar based postal delivery vehicle, ‘Soleckshaw’ was introduced by Sachin Pilot, Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology on Friday. During the launching ceremony, Pilot said that it is a moment of honor for India to use green technology for delivering services in an efficient and eco-friendly manner.

Pilot further said launching of this vehicle was a part of the Project Arrow and this is a step towards modernization of postal services by using green and eco-friendly technology. He also said that first of all this vehicle will be install in one district for 15-20 days and later on after observing its operations, its expansion will be decided.

Sachin Pilot has announced that Soleckshaw will be first installed in Rajasthan.

Throughout this pilot project, postmen are required to give continuous feedback to the department so that necessary alterations or improvements can be incorporated in the vehicle as and when required.

Sulajja Firodia Motwani, managing director, Kinetic Motor said that deploying this vehicle for postal services under pilot project will help the company to receive necessary feedback and accordingly company can brought the changes required in the design and its application before starting its mass production.

Motwani told that at present the vehicle is running at a speed of 30 km per hour, which can be increased to 50 km per hour on one time battery charge of 6 hrs.

Soleckshaw is developed by CSIR, and is a solar-power assisted, pedal-operated cycle rickshaw.

Department had developed proper charging stations where batteries are charged by solar power. Numerous entrepreneurs are attracted by this technology and at present Soleckshaws are operating at Delhi (Chandni Chowk), Chandigarh, Jaipur, Durgapur, Ranchi, Kolkata and Ahmedabad.

Soleckshaw has gained popularity by its increasing efficiency in delivering post, parcels and other postal services both in urban and rural areas.

The vehicle has been redesigned and developed into a modified version by Kinetic Motors, in association with CMERI (CSIR).

Apart from providing postal services, Soleckshaw is also capable of providing value added services to the rural areas and also provide charging facilities for mobile phones in remote areas.

Soleckshaw is available at Rs. 25,000 but manufacturers claims that prices will come down with mass production
