Somdev-Prakash advances in Australian Open

The Indian pair of Somdev Devvarman and Prakash Amritraj has advanced into the second round of the men’ doubles event of the first grand slam of the year Australian Open at the Melbourne Park on Wednesday.

The Indian duo survived from scare of James Cerretani and Travis Rettenmaier of America as they ousted their opponents in a three setter match 5-7 6-4 7-5 in the first round of men’s doubles event.

Somdev-Prakash will now lock horns with the winner of the first round match between eleventh seeded pair of Simon Aspelin of Sweden and Australian Paul Hanley and Brazilian Marcos Daniel and Daniel Koellerer of Australia.

Meanwhile, the Indo-Pak pair of Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi has crashed out of the Australian Open as they went down to South Africa's Rik de Voest and American Scott Lipsky
6-4, 1-6, 6-7 (6) in the first round of men’s doubles category.

In women’s doubles event, Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza and her Spanish partner Virginia Ruano Pascual will face Indonesia's Yayuk Suki and Kimiko Date of Japan in the first round.
