Somdev-Sonam advance into Chennai Open semis Somdev Devvarman and Sanam Singh of India have stormed into the semifinal of the men’s double event of the US $400,000 Aircel ATP Chennai Open after ousting Jeff Coetzee and Rogier Wassen duo in the quarterfinal on Thursday.
The Indian duo registered straight set victory over the unseeded Russian-Dutch pair of Jeff and Rogier by 6-2, 6-3 in the men’s double event. Somdev and Sanam dominated throughout the match.
Somdev-Sanam duo earned 55 points out of the 93 in the match. The Indian pair saved three out of four breakpoints on their serves and wrapped up the match in less than one hour.
Among the other Indians, Mahesh Bhupathi and his partner Rohan Bopanna have thrashed the American pair of James Cerretani and Travis Rettenmaier 6-3 7-6 to move into the semifinal of men’s double event.
On the other side, India's young sensation Yuki Bhambri and his Spanish partner Carlos Moya went down to Spanish pair of Marcel Granollers and Santiago Ventura in straight sets by 7-5, 6-1 in another quarter-final.
