Sony launches world's first digital binoculars with video recording Japanese electronics major, Sony ahs launched the first digital binoculars in the world, which are capable of recording Full HD videos and take pictures.

The new DEV-3 and DEV-5 models are capable of recording video in AVCHD 2.0 format. The devices can also have stereo sound for added effects and record videos in a 3D mode that can be viewed on a 3D HDTV.

Both binoculars have variable zoom allowing users to scan the areas before zooming in on a particular object like a bird or a small animal. The DEV-5 offers 10x of optical zoom and is expandable up to 20x with digital zoom and the other model has a maximum xoom of 10x.

The devices use electronic autofocus to keep even moving objects sharp instead of manual focus on more traditional binoculars. Electronic autofocus can be used 1cm away when recording in 2D, or 80cm away when recording in 3D.

When users take a 3D picture, the other images for left and right are taken by two G optics by Sony with Exmor R CMOS sensors and BIONZ processors. The Optical Steadyshot in the devices helps take pictures that are stable. The two models also have a USB port for transferring images and video clips to a computer.
