The pop legend Michael Jackson’s death has caused irreparable loss to the music world, but the spammers are playing their dirty tricks in the name of the legendary entertainer of the world.
The Internet and IT security firm, Websense Security Labs has cautioned internet users that spammers are sending spam emails containing links to unpublished videos and pictures of Michael Jackson, and when the recipients click on these links, they are transferred to a Trojan Downloader hosted on a compromised website.
According to Websense Security Labs, with the help of these Trojans, the hackers are able to remotely access the computer systems of victims. The hackers can perform several desired operations, such as file deletion, modification, upload and download. The hackers can install unwanted harmful software on victims’ computer systems, and they can access and steal victims’ sensitive data and information, such as passwords, security codes, account numbers, credit card information, etc.
The IT security and control firm Sophos has also warned web users against spam messages associated with Michael Jackson.
According to SophosLabs, spammer came into action about 8 hours after Jacko’s death; they started floating spam messages taking advantage of the breaking news Jacko’s death.
SophosLabs has revealed that spammers, in their spam messages, claim that they have information about the death of Michael Jackson and they want to share it with the recipient (victim). Some spam emails do not have any call-to-action links, such as a URL, email address or phone number, and “from” email address is bogus, but the spammers are able to access and steal useful info from the recipients.
