New Delhi, Feb 7 : Centre extends ban on SIMIThe Centre today extended the ban on Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) for two years, saying, "the group continues to indulge in unlawful activities."

"The decision to re-impose the ban on SIMI for two years has been taken in view of the fact that the group continues to indulge in unlawful activities," a Home Ministry release said.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.

Earlier, the ban was re-imposed for two years in 2006. It was imposed for the first time in September 2001. (ANI)
