Subway planning to hire staff for 1,300 new shops

SubwayWorld's largest sandwich chain,, Subway has said that it is planning to hire new staff members for its 1,300 new shops in the UK and Ireland.

The increase will take the total number of its stores in the UK and Ireland to 3,000 in the next six years. The company already employs 8,600 people and will significantly boost its work force in the country to meet the increasing demand for its offerings. The company has recorded higher demand especially after the launch of healthier sandwiches and drinks, including a new low-fat flatbread range.

The Connecticut-headquartered company has also introduced new breakfast range that resulted in stores opening for longer hours. Its 1,734 shops across the region are independently owned and run by franchisees. The company has opened 150 outlets in the previous year including partnerships with motorway service station chain Welcome Break and the petrol forecourt retailer Applegreen.

European assistant regional director Mike Charest said, "The UK and Irish markets have been fantastic success stories for the Subway brand and we see opportunities for further growth. In addition to our traditional store development, we see new potential in settings such as universities, stations, convenience stores, hospitals, airports and petrol stations."
