Sunburn Art worries doctors

According to reports, popularity of a new social media trend is increasing, which according to doctors is dangerous and can even lead to death. The new trend is Sunburn Art and is being shown increasingly on Instagram and Twitter, where people are displaying the body art using sunscreen.

According to doctors, this craze on social media is quite surprising, when melanoma is already increasing. They said that sunburn could lead to increased risk of getting the health condition. According to Doctor Lornell Hansen, five good sunburns lead to increased chances of suffering from malignant melanoma and the risk increases by approximately 80%.

This technique involves sunburn as the name indicates, so it has become a concern for skin specialists. According to Avera Dermatologist Valerie Flynn, the technique is totally awful.

In this art, sunscreen is applied to create specific patterns on body of an individual and skin's surrounding areas are burnt using sunlight. According to Flynn, each form of sunburn is dangerous as it damages the DNA in the skin, and causes irreparable damage at cellular level.

According to both the doctors, one can do a number of things in order to prevent severe skin damage, however it is very important to stay away from tanning beds, and always wear sunscreen while stepping out. According to Doctor Hansen, "We have Jazzfest going on this weekend making sure that they are putting sunblock on. I prefer a 50 or higher and it should be applied a minimum of every two hours".
