Swedish energy firm makes bid on Dutch Nuon

Amsterdam - Swedish energy provider Vattenfall has made a bid of 8.5 billion euros (10.70 billion dollars) for Dutch energy provider Nuon, the Dutch company confirmed on Monday.

The Swedish company intends to buy initially 49 per cent of the shares, acquiring the remaining 51 per cent in the next six years.

If the deal is realized, it would mark the second foreign takeover on the Dutch energy market. On January 12, German RWE announced the takeover of Dutch Essent. (dpa)
