Swine Flu: Is the Flu Scare Over?

Swine Flu

There are many who are continually insisting that the Swine Flu is now behind us; we have managed to battle the condition, and come out of it victorious, and this has led to the authorities shutting down many help lines, clinics and websites which aimed to help people fight Swine Flu and gather correct knowledge about it.

But the latest figures shared by the World Health Organization have come as a sharp contrast. Very recently, the agency revealed that as of mid-February, as many as 16,000 deaths have been reported from around the world because of H1N1.

"As of 14 February 2010, worldwide more than 212 countries and overseas territories or communities have reported laboratory confirmed cases of pandemic influenza H1N1 2009, including at least 15,921 deaths", the WHO said in its latest update.

So then, it seems that we cannot be complacent about the condition just as yet. There might just be a second wave lurking around somewhere!

But even so, it cannot be denied that things are much better than before. That, however, is certainly is no reason to not be cautious. After all, to keep away from the flu is not all that difficult. Doctors all over the nation are still urging all those who have not been vaccinated to get a shot against H1N1, as it is always better to be safe than sorry!

Experts have shared that pregnant women, the elderly and overweight people are most at the risk of contracting the flu, so they should definitely be protected against it. Also, infants need extra protection.

Whether or not the Swine Flu risk has passed, is something that is definitely debatable, so everyone should rush to get a vaccination shot and contact their doctor as soon as any symptoms of flu are noticed.
