Kerala is totally unaffected by swine flu. This information was given at the Kerala assembly by Kerala Health Minister, P K Sreemathy.

In the assembly, a confident Sreemathi said, “Kerala so far has not been affected by swine flu. Right now, two patients are under observation and their test results are awaited.”

Sreemathy said that there was no need to panic and assured all the members of the assembly that all the required preparations have been made in case there are some signs of the disease.

She asked the people that if a case of some symptom is detected, one should visit the nearest Primary Health Centre or Zonal Hospital or inform the district administration.

As a precaution an isolation ward will be kept ready in every medical college hospital in the state so that if a swine flu patient is detected he can be treated there.

The health minister also informed that large quantity of medicines for swine flu, masks and gloves have been received from the Union government, which are being provided to medical college hospitals.

Apart from this, the state government has also set up a 24-hour monitoring cells at the three airports in the state. These cells are examining passengers coming in from affected nations.
