Here is something to wake you up. Two persons who had arrived in Goa from a foreign trip have shown the symptoms of swine flu.

However, the state health authorities said that one amongst the two passengers is having swine flu.

While providing this information to the media persons, Mr. Sanjiv Srivastava, State Health Secretary said, “The passenger who travelled from London to Goa via Germany is confirmed patient of swine flu while we are checking the samples of second passenger who arrived in Goa from Sharjah this morning.”

Mr. Srivastava added that the confirmed patient, male passenger, has been quarantined at Chicalim Primary Health Centre, few kilometres away from the airport.

The swine flu suspect lady, aged 21, was admitted to Goa Medical College and Hospital.

These two were traced during the screening at the airport by the state health authorities.

The authorities have already sent the blood samples of both the patients to National institute of virology at Pune for further investigation.

The State government has commissioned two different quarantine facilities: one at Chicalim Primary Health Centre in South Goa and another at GMC.

Earlier on Thursday, the WHO declared the swine flu outbreak as a pandemic, the first in over 4 decades.  

The deadly swine flu (H1N1) virus which first emerged in Mexico in April, has spread to over 74 countries. According to an estimate, there are nearly 28,000 cases worldwide, with about 140 deaths so far.
