Swine Flu Scare: Four Members Of Chandigarh Family QuarantinedAs a precautionary measure, the UT Health department has quarantined four members of a family from Chandigarh, as they were reportedly in close contact with their HINI flu infected relative in Delhi.

According to the reports, a middle-aged couple along with their son had gone to Delhi on June 9 to receive their daughter who was coming from Australia.

The family also met a relative, who had come from Haiti, USA.

All of them spent the night together at a friend’s house at Mayur Vihar in the capital, and they returned to Chandigarh on the next day (June 10).

The relative from Haiti was tested positive for the H1N1 virus at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi on June 11.

The Chandigarh authorities were informed by the Union Health Ministry regarding the swine flu case.

While confirming the news, nodal officer H C Gera stated that the members of family residing in Sector 49 is being closely monitored since Friday and a dosage of ‘tamiflu’ is also being given to the family.

Mr. Gera said, “We have quarantined the family. Our doctors are examining them twice a day.”

“We have told the family to remain indoors for the next one week and also inform their friends and relatives to stay away for this period. Although they have not shown any symptoms of swine flu, we do not want to take any chances,” Mr. Gera added.

However, all the four samples sent to Delhi were tested negative for the deadly flu, which has been declared a worldwide pandemic by World Health Organization (WHO).

“Till now we have received four suspected cases of swine flu. We had sent their samples to Delhi but all of them were tested negative,” a senior health functionary said.
