Swine flu: Symbiosis & others shut their institutes in Pune

Swine-flu As a preventive measure, most of the premier educational institutes including the Symbiosis International University (SIU) have decided to close their campuses for at- least one week following the outburst of swine flu across the entire Pune city.

Confirming the development, Vidya Yeravdekar (Principal Director, SIU) said: "Our main academic campus will remain closed till August 13 on the advice given by the public health authorities following the detection of an H1N1 positive case."

Yeravdekar added that the classes would now reopen on August 16.

Recently, a third year B. Sc (computer science) student of SIU tested positive for influenza A H1N1 virus.

Others who also have decided to close their institutions include: the ILS Law College, the Mercedes Benz International School and MIT school of management (MITSOM).

Till Monday, one of the student of MIT School of Management (MITSOM) has also been tested positive for Influenza A H1N1 virus.

However, Brig (retd) Ranbir Kumar Bhatia, Director, MITSOM, made it clear that the rest of the institute is functional. He also asserted that no other student has tested positive for swine flu.

Notably, on Monday, a 14 year old schoolgirl died of swine flu in Pune itself.
