Switch to staircase to remain fit

Woman-Climbing-StairsA new study examined on 8 undergraduate women reveals that climbing staircase twice in a day helped to keep them fit.

Experts advise people to use stairs and avoid escalators to stay fit.

Colin Boreham, the professor from the University College Dublin Institute for Sport and Health said that, climbing stairs is an activity which does not require any particular device or any extra time, it just required willingness to avoid using lifts. The results related to this activity are remarkable.

Boffins, had tracked 8 undergraduate women to follow an eight week program. He encouraged these women to climb 199 step staircase twice daily and five days a week, by climbing 90 steps per minute. This phenomenon improves their aerobic fitness by 17 percent and help in reducing harmful LDL cholesterol by 8 percent.

Dr. Boreham said that, stair climbing at such a high intensity helps to achieve health adaptations in a shorter period of time. It was found that on an average they all were climbing five times in a day which is equal to ten minutes exercise. This is can treated as a handy exercise.
