Tiger Woods misses cut at British Open

Tiger Woods misses cut at British OpenLondon, July 18 : Golfing great Tiger Woods has missed the cut for only the second time in his pro career at a major championship.

Woods, missed the cut for the second time in 49 professional majors, reports The Telegraph.

And as Woods departed the British Open, the co-leader was the oldest man ever to sit atop a major, 59-year-old Tom Watson, who made a sensational 60-foot putt on the 18th green to get there.

Watson, who is tied with British Open rookie Steve Marino at 5-under 135, one shot clear of Mark Calcavecchia, rebounded from what looked like a killer start and brought it back to even par for the day.

Woods, meanwhile, stumbled through the middle of Turnberry''s Ailsa Course like a punch-drunk fighter and was unable to land the haymaker he needed at the end.

He shot 74 on one of those days when the golf course plays its hardest and he is usually able to make up ground on the poor hacks in front of him.

"I was 1 under par after seven holes and just right there in the championship," said Woods, who missed the cut by one stroke at 5-over 145.

"It was just problem after problem. I kept compounding my problems out there," he said.

Beginning with a bogey on No. 8, Woods played a six-hole stretch at 7-over par that included double bogeys on Nos. 10 and 13. He birdied the 16th and 17th and would have needed another on No. 18 to make the cut. But Woods failed to hole out a 35-foot birdie chip from off the same green on which Watson had thrilled the crowd about an hour earlier. (ANI)
