Tokyo  - Japanese stocks rose in Friday morning trading on overnight gains on Wall Street.

The Nikkei 225 Stock Average rose back above the psychologically important 10,000 barrier just one day after falling below it, gaining 124.18 points, or 1.26 per cent, to stand at 10,015.28.

The broader-based Topix index also gained 9.44 points, or 1.07 per cent, to stand at 891.70.

On currency markets at 9 am (0000 GMT), the dollar traded at 91.50-51 yen, up from 90.65-66 yen in late trading Thursday.

The euro traded at 1.4837-41 dollars, up from 1.4735-36 dollars, and at 135.78-81 yen, up from 133.58-62 yen. (dpa)
