Two more people lost their lives due to Japanese Encephalitis and viral encephalitis

Two more people lost their lives due to Japanese Encephalitis and viral encephalitis. Mithu Pal, a resident of Sonarpur in South 24-Parganas, died due Japanese Encephalitis in the National Medical College on Friday night. Abdul Khaleq, a resident of Bishnupur in South 24-Parganas, died of viral encephalitis at the National Medical College on Saturday.

Officials from state health department said that there have been 81 malarial deaths in the state this year while seven have succumbed to dengue. Another person has succumbed to Japanese Encephalitis (JE).

According to reports of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) in the city, vector-borne diseases including unknown fever have claimed 21 lives. Over 41,000 cases of malaria have been reported, while 85 cases of dengue have been reported.

Nine people have died of malaria under KMC’s jurisdiction, six have succumbed to dengue. Three others have succumbed to unknown fever while JE, meningoencephalitis and viral encephalitis have claimed a life each.
