Two test matches to decide the best between India and South Africa
As being criticized for not scheduling many test matches for Indian cricket team, Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI), has finally requested Cricket South Africa (CSA) to include two Tests during the upcoming series in India in February-March 2010.
Now, instead of five one-dayers, there will be two test matches for the No. 1 rank in the place of three one dayers. India has recently attained the number one spot in the ICC Test rankings after they beat Sri Lanka 2-0 in the recently-concluded series.
There have been reports that the BCCI had not made any effort to include two Tests expecting that the Indian crowds only wanted to see T20 and ODI games.
But, the move was criticized by the fans, the media and even some administrators to the fact that the new No. 1 team only had two Tests scheduled in the next 11 months. Even the star players like MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag had expressed a desire to play more Tests.
On the request of the CSA to not to include test matches during the series, which was earlier accepted by the BCCI, an official said, “This change was important for the betterment of the game. We know Test cricket is important and so CSA was asked to consider our request to play Tests."
