UDD urging people to jointly demand general elections for Thailand

UDD urging people to jointly demand general elections for ThailandThey are urging others to join their demand for a general election, say supporters of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship in Thailand.

The Bangkok Post has reported that demonstrating around Bangkok Friday, red-shirted supporters of the UDD were riding on motorcycles and in pick-up trucks equipped with speaker systems urging others to join their protest Saturday.

UDD leader Natthawut Saikua also said, "The UDD movement will be peaceful and not violent, but it will be aimed at reaching a goal."

The Post further said that speakers demanded Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva immediately dissolve the House and schedule a general election.

There was a political impasse and the government should think about the UDD's demand that it dissolve the House of Representatives to kick-start negotiations, said Sen. Direk Thungfang of Nonthaburi.

The newspaper further reported that Jatuporn Prompan, a Puea Thai list MP and UDD co-leader, said he felt Parliament could not function at present and because of that, the party's MPs felt the need to debate outside Parliament. Direk also added that sincerity on all sides could be shown if everyone first stopped hurling accusations at each other. (With Inputs from Agencies)
