UFO-shaped clouds spark speculations of an alien invasion

Mysterious, disc-shaped clouds that formed after severe Texas storms last month have people believing in UFOs.

The large circular clouds appeared after a wave of big storms on May 25 in southeastern Texas, and disappeared quickly.

The spectators snapped photos and speculated about extraterrestrial origins and alien invasions on social media. One Twitter wrote: 'Woah! The sky over Texas appears to be FILLED with UFOs!' However, the theory behind these figures has been debunked by the meteorologists.

According to them, these figures are simply lenticular clouds, which look like a nuclear mushroom high in the sky.

They are formed when warm humid air is pushed up into cooler regions. This typically occurs when warm air is forced up and over mountains, creating saucer-like clouds.

While commenting on the latest sighting, Scott C. Waring, editor of UFO Sightings Daily, has claimed that UFOs usually disguise themselves as clouds.

However, Mutual UFO Network website (MUFON) volunteer chief investigator for Texas, Fletcher Gray said that he was sure the sightings were cloud and not UFOs.

He said, "When we have a low (pressure system) like that, with the upper atmosphere as cold as it was, and with all that hail and rain in the last four to five weeks, you get those strange cloud formations".

Meanwhile, 56 UFO sightings have been submitted by Gray over the past month, including one by a guy who photographed a green garbage can lid and said it was a UFO.
