Guwahati, Oct 31 : An uneasy calm prevailed in Assam, a day after a series of bomb blasts in quick succession ripped through Guwahati and three other towns on Thursday in which 70 people were killed and over 300 injured.

Although normalcy is returning, the shock caused by serial explosions is still on in the minds of the people.

Ganeshguri, one of worst affected area in the blast, the otherwise busy area lay deserted this morning with vegetables strewn around the place.

"This place is usually teeming with people. The tea stalls, newspaper stalls are all open by this time. All the office goers come here. The market where the blast took place is also open by now... But, today when we came here to see the area, it was lying deserted," said Rajnish, a resident.

"I leave house at around five in the morning. I usually get passengers, but today I''m here alone, none of my other fellow auto drivers have come today. The police have also restricted movement by putting up barriers," said Bapukan Ali, an auto driver.

The Assam government has sounded a red alert all over the State. Army has been asked to remain on high alert following the serial blasts.

Meanwhile, a massive search operation has been launched to arrest those involved in blasts. A seven-member National Security Guard (NSG) team has already reached Guwahati to identify the explosives used in the blasts.

Twelve high intensity serial blasts rocked Guwahati and some other cities of Assam on Thursday morning.

The first explosions took place near the Ganeshguri flyover near the high-security capital complex housing the Assembly building, followed by explosions at Paltan Bazar and Fancy Bazar in Guwahati.

Around the same time, bombs also went off in crowded market places of Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon and Barpeta in lower Assam.

The banned ULFA has denied any role in these blasts. (ANI)
