Upbeat Serie A Brazilians ready for friendly with Italy

Upbeat Serie A Brazilians ready for friendly with Italy London  - Brazil's Italy-based internationals said Monday they were looking forward to meeting the Azzurri in a high-level friendly in London Tuesday.

Inter Milan defender Douglas Maicon, one of the 10 Serie A players summoned by coach Dunga, Monday told La Gazzetta dello Sport: "It never occurred to me to play against the national team of the country where I play.

"I hope it all goes well for Brazil. It will certainly be a good experience."

Maicon is said to have bet a sum to be given to charity with team mate Marco Materazzi, a member of Italy's 2006 World Cup-winning team, who was not called up for the game.

Inter striker Adriano said: "We know how Italy play and we want to take advantage from this. Of course we want to get back to Italy with a win. It's a sane rivalry, nothing more."

For AC Milan forward Ronaldinho said "the game is a classic of enormous importance. I hope to be at my maximum and help the team."

Beside the rivalry with Italy, who with four World Cups are second only to five-time winners Brazil, Inter goalkeeper Julio Cesar said his squad were interested in beginning the year well.

"The Azzurri are the world champions. A win would give us a lot of confidence."

After the friendly at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium, Brazil and Italy could meet for a crucial face-off at the Confederations Cup in June in South Africa. (dpa)
