Violence erupts in Kolkata over murder of a Muslim youth

Kolkata, Sept 22 : Violence erupted in Kolkata on Saturday following the murder of a Muslim youth.

An irate mob of over hundred people clashed with police in the city, and also blocked roads after rumours spread of the murder.

Police had to resort to tear-gassing to bring the situation under control.

Two vehicles were burnt and property was damaged before the mob was dispersed by the police.

"There was a road blockade organised by some people at number Four Bridge regarding the person who died yesterday named Rehman. The rumour was that the body was missing, which was not correct, it was a rumour. We tried to pacify them but, they did not listen to us,” said Kuldeep Singh, Additional Commissioner of Police.

The police are patrolling the area to check against any untoward happening.

Three policemen were badly injured in the incident. (With inputs from ANI)
